Self Care Managed
I've been enjoying my time in isolation. A couple weeks ago while on the phone with my practitioner/therapist, she asks how I'm feeling, I say, "Grounded. Solid. I feel like I'm in a great space."
"Good," she says, "now's the perfect time for you to do the Ayervedic cleanse we discussed last year. You're home, you're low stress, things are simple." Voila!
A few days later, a box arrives at my door with all the oils, herbs, teas, and basic food items needed. I'm talking barley, rice, and lentils, y'all.
"Perfect," I think to myself, "this should be simple. Nothing's happening, things are easy, I'm good."
I'm sure you can already taste the irony of these words.
A week into this cleanse and I've had a few emotional curveballs thrown at me. The kind that would typically send me running towards a bottle of wine... chocolate cake... or fries, whichever Instacart or Door Dash can make happen ASAP.
"Yes Alex, I'll take "Ways to numb" for $500 please." #Jeopardy
Instead, I choose to sit... I contemplate... I write... I emote (I'm talking full range of emotions), I feel, I express... and I eat my barley and drink my detox tea and breathe my way through the moments when wine tries to persuade me to "Take it easy". #ThanksButNoThanks
I find myself in a new reckoning. The realization that I am being given the opportunity to honor my commitment to "SELF"- self-love, self-care, self-acceptance.
When making the decision to honor yourself, be prepared for the challenges (which are actually opportunities) that come in and ask, "Are you sure?" *insert mischievous finger tapping here*
And choose yourSELF. Declare, "Yes, I'm sure AF!" Then go do that work out, finish that book, make that call, cut that cord, or in my case, eat that bowl of barley and sip on your detox tea.
Do whatever the step is that you made the commitment to that honors YOU.
